Subject: [Player-users] Re: Ubuntu version of Real Player available for
download?
Message-ID: <468E9C90.9010604@real.com>
Hi Ed -
I have moved your request to our player-users mailing list so that more
people will be available to help. Please respond to the list.
We have provided a RealPlayer.deb installation file to Ubuntu that you
can install using apt-get. The instructions are at the link below.
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty#How_to_install_Multimedia_Player_.28RealPlayer_10.29
However, it sounds like you've already got the RealPlayer installed.
You can run these three tests to verify that it is installed correctly:
1) Can you play any files from your hard drive in the RealPlayer?
2) Do clips from this page open in the RealPlayer?
http://service.real.com/test/
3) If you go to the bottom of this page and click "Submit", does it
start playing a video? http://helixqa.helixcommunity.org/HCEmbed/index.php
If the answer is yes to all three, either your browser needs to be
changed to use RealPlayer as the default application to open realmedia
files (usually in Prefs under Downloads) or the URL you are trying to
play isn't supported by RealPlayer. You can reply with the URL if you
are unsure and we can verify it for you.
Thanks,
- Donya

Hello Helix,
I have Ubuntu Linux on my computer.
I've tried listening to some Internet radio stations with Real
Player, but the default application for the Real Audio stream is Movie
Player, which doesn't seem to play the audio correctly.
I've tried downloading some Linux versions of the (free) Real Audio
player, and open the Real Audio stream with a Linux Real Player, but
it still doesn't work.
Do you have an Ubuntu-specific version of Real Player?
Thanks.
Ed

Subject: [Player-users] Player for linux-based phones
Message-ID: <26350.59266.qm@web50004.mail.re2.yahoo.com>
Hello;
I have a linux-based mobile phone which has a realplayer on it.
It is very bad that there is helixplayer for symbian but not for
my linux mobile. I need to play ogg by my phone, but its
realplayer doesn't!
How can I ask to start a helix-project which implements a
java-based player, which like java games be able to be installed
on most phones?
There is similar project named "jorbis" (www.jcraft.com) but I
couldn't install it on my phone; I'm not sure it is a player
really.
Thank you for your notice,
Bahram Alinezhad,
Rudehen, Tehran, Iran.
(My phone: Motorola ROKR E6)

No reply?!
The site says:
"All Helix developers are part of the mailing lists and are hence
the mailing lists are the first recourse to getting more
information about Helix DNA components, getting your problems
solved and getting deeply involved in the community"
Then, where are they?!
Thank you for your notice,

Hi there,
We do not productize a full-blown application for mobile devices
(NOTE-we do indeed create a product for the desktop), but instead
provide a platform(Helix DNA Client) on which applications can be
built by handset OEMs. The Motorola handset that you are using uses
the Helix DNA Client, but the final application is integrated by Motorola.
Motorola handsets, today, do not allow field upgrades for native (NON
Java-based) apps unlike Symbian-S60, which is why we have a
*reference* application for Symbian and not for your Moto handset.
Your idea of creating a Java-based player which runs on top of Helix
is a great one. The first step for you would be to come up with a
Project Proposal for this project and submit it to this mailing list.
Regards,
Rishi.

Hi Bahram -
I am forwarding your request to the helix-client-dev@helixcommunity.org
mailing list. They should be able better answer your questions
regarding setting up a java-based player project.
The player-users mailing list is specifically for the PC Linux player.
Thanks,
- Donya

salam donya,
For the time you forwarded my email to helix-client-dev, I wasn't
a member of that list, hence, I couldn't follow the discussion
there. Just now, I subscribed to that list and I am going to open
a new topic titled:
"Please make a java player"
Anyhow, thanks a lot for your response and help.
