I'm using the nightly realplay build (realplay-10.1.0.3992-linux-2.2-libc6-gcc32-i586.bin) on Fedora
8. Try to use the default (pulseaudio) sound device results in the following crash:
[ian@prometheus Desktop]$ realplay

Which Linux distribution you used?
10.1.0.4016 is 2 days old only. So, I wonder what could be the problem. I surely am not aware of
anything that can cause such problem.

RealPlayer can be launched from the command line with a few options one of which is -f or --fullscreen.
Currently launching RealPlayer with the fullscreen option without any other arguments result in the
option being ignored.
For example,
$ realplay -f
results in the player launching normally. Here, a warning message informing the user that FULLSCREEN
mode is enabled only when a valid argument is passed, would be helpful. The bug here is a warning is
needed when -f or --fullscreen option is used with /usr/bin/realplay from the command line.

I have problem of not being able to use the Realplayer plugin within Mozilla Firefox. The plugin
within Firefox is for Real player 9. I have Realplayer 10 installed within Mandriva 2008. I can not
see nor hear anything. Not only is BBC effected but FNAC Radio France... in fact any site requiring
Realplayer. Helix player opens instead with a message that this content is taken care of by
Realplayer and I should have "protocol_pnm" (whatever that is, I am a newbie to this kind of thing,
sorry) I previously had Mandriva 2007 installed and the professional who did the installation made
the links etc and everything worked a treat. If I copy the Url, open RealPlayer 10, and paste the
URL then that particular piece works.
The windows plugin for Firefox works but not for 'listen again' in BBC

I was playing some videos from arsdigita, ex:

the videos probably have some problems, but the thing is that realplayer crahses on certain frames.
I think it's reproducible and that it is always on the same frames, but I'm not sure.
If I compile mplayer to play rm's using RealPlayer's libs it does no crashes but after the
problematic frame it only shows garbage. The sound is ok and it continues to play normally.

I can reproduce this problem only if Fedora's SELINUX gets in the way.
However, this checkin nearly 3 weeks ago should have fixed the problem without dealing with it
manually using the chcon command:

Fix of the bug
Actually, the original code was designed to do such a work, but there is
one slip that cause the code doesn't work.
In player/app/gtk/open.cpp, the gtk_file_chooser_dialog was create as

hxplay_open_file_dialog_response, it justify whether the response id is

last browsed directory has never been
memorized.
to fix the bug, simply change GTK_RESPONSE_OK to GTK_RESPONSE_ACCEPT

Realplayer is unable to play a video in Firefox.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start firefox .

Expected results:
Realplayer controls to appear then video to start playing.
Actual results:
Realplayer controls very briefly appear then disappear. Video area and controls
appear as grey rectangles.

The problem is reproducible every time.

When repeatedly switching between fullscreen and windowed mode RealPlayer will
sometimes crash.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Download http://mirror.linux.org.au/pub/linux.conf.au/2008/Fri/mel8-139.ogg

2. Open mel8-139.ogg with RealPlayer.
While the video is playing:
3. Press Ctrl-F to go to fullscreen.
4. Press Escape to return to windowed mode.
5. Go to step 3.
Expected result:
RealPlayer to keep switching between fullscreen and windowed mode.
Actual result:
RealPlayer often switches but will suddenly crash at random.
How reproducible is the problem?
The problem is reproducible although it may take many (40-80) switches to
finally provoke a crash but it can also happen far sooner.

OpenSUSE 10.3
RealPlayer-10.0.9-11
kdebase3-kdm-3.5.7-87.5
This bug is from Novell's bugzilla (bnc#359938). I'm not able to reproduce it exactly, because on my
machine the RealPlayer crash after loading the ogg file :-)

Adding further relevant information:
Frame-scrubbing for local playback of files is currently broken.
The last build where framescrubbing for local content was working was RP
10.1.0.3670 (player_all-110107-7300). The next build that i have
available is 10.1.0.3673 (player_all-110207-7304) and frame scrubbing
for local playback is broken in that build and all builds beyond that
build till current builds to date.
The content I used is:
clip 1 = RV8 at 450K, no audio
clip2 = RV10 at 368K, RA10 at 64K
For the RV8 clip, framescrubbing during RTSP and HTTP playback barely works even for build 10.1.0.3670.
For the RV10 clip, framescrubbing during RTSP and HTTP stream playback worked with some lag at times

Well apparently it's fixed.
My old mplayer still has the problem but the realplay 10.1.0.4059 reads through flawlessly.

The first run of a RealPlayer on SLED10 causes the open of non-existing page on helixcommunity.org,
so the browser was redirected to the http://helixcommunity.org/404. The RealPlayer version if a
10.0.8.805
Steps to reproduce:
1.) remove the ~/.realplayerrc (if exists)
2.) run the RealPlayer
3.) Click to the Forward, Forward, Accept
4.) Leave the Check for updates checkbox checked
5.) Click OK

There are multiple ways of explaining this issue:
1. Explanation for users:
Several RealPlayer DSO files requires the following command to load and execute in the presence of
enforcing SELINUX:
chcon -t textrel_shlib_t plugins/*.so codecs/*.so
2. Explanation for developers:
Several hand-optimized assembly source or object files are not converted to use PIC (Position
Independent Code) addressing desired by shared libraries on Linux. Because of that the dynamic
linker would need to do relocation fixups in the text pages and that process triggered SELINUX
violation.
As a result SELINUX stopped the DSO file from being loaded. The command line in #1 allowed dynamic
relocation fixups while loading DSO files.

Scenario: A playlist with 5 entries with "Repeat All" and "Shuffle" both selected. Playback of the
first entry in the playlist is then initiated.
Expected behavior: There is infinite playback of all the entries in a shuffled mode
Observed behavior: The playback of all the clips happens atleast once and into the second iteration
of the playback of the clips (repeated shuffle), playback ends abruptly.
It is to be noted that selecting Repeat All without selecting Shuffle OR selecting Shuffle without
Repeat All results in expected behavior.

Installing and uninstalling an RPM of RealPlayer 11 for Linux leaves behind the following symlink:
/usr/bin/realplay -> /opt/real/RealPlayer/realplay
In this scenario, an user trying to launch realplayer from the terminal would be greeted with the
following message:
/usr/bin/realplay: No such file or directory
The desired behavior is that the symlink is removed after uninstalling the player

RealPlayer 11 crashes once on distributions with PulseAudio enabled (Fedora 8) by default. The
player crashes on the first instance and does not crash further.
The workaround to prevent the first crash is to disable PulseAudio. The desired behavior is to not
crash at all even when PulseAudio is the default sound server / is enabled.

The issue here is observed when uninstalling the RPM is done with sudo privileges. Uninstalling as
root resulted in expected behavior and the symlink is removed as expected. Special handling is
needed for sudo uninstall.

Running the BIN package/installer without chcon installed on a machine results in a "warning"
message as the installer checks whether chcon is installed locally using "which". When chcon isn't
found, which returns that chcon hasn't been located in the $PATH.
The downside is the output looks a little messy.

Fixed.
Removed postinst script error output when chcon isn't installed.
Fixed error output from $(which chcon) by moving redirection of stderr into $().
