[hxplay] Hello and Welcome to the Helix Player Project!
Vikram Dendi vikram at helixcommunity.orgHello all and a warm welcome to new Helix community members! Thank you for your interest in the Helix Player project. My name is Vikram Dendi, and I am the program manager for the Helix Player. The Helix Player project was officially launched <http://www.realnetworks.com/company/press/releases/2003/helixplayer.html> on August 6, 2003 at LinuxWorld San Francisco and has been on fasttrack to Milestone 1 ever since. The goal of the Helix player project <https://player.helixcommunity.org/> is to create the best, most powerful media player (and browser plug-in) for Linux and Solaris harnessing the power of community and open source development. The Helix Player is being built on top of the cross-platform open source media engine, called the Helix DNA Client <https://helix-client.helixcommunity.org/>. Initial versions of the player will be built for Linux and Solaris following freedesktop.org standards using the GTK+ toolkit. Further, the modular architecture of the Helix Player will ensure the code is easily portable to any operating system or embedded device. It will support all of the types of media currently offered by the Helix DNA Client. True to the spirit of open source, our open community approach will ensure that those who will use the Helix Player have an opportunity to help shape it. The project timeline, which evolves as members of the Helix community contribute to the Helix Player project, along with product specifications, is available on the Helix Player project home page <https://player.helixcommunity.org/>, plus various documents that we hope will give you a good overview of what we have done so far. The first of four project milestones <https://player.helixcommunity.org/2003/draft/milestones.html>, which delivers the first usable release, is scheduled for early next quarter. Please feel free to access the current codebase via CVS. Please email me <mailto:vdendi at helixcommunity.org> if you have any questions. I also encourage you to participate on our other mailing lists <https://www.helixcommunity.org/2002/intro/mailinglists/>. If you are interested in the development of Helix Player and would like to be part of feature discussions please make sure to add yourself to the dev at player.helixcommunity.org mailing lists. The forums on the website are a great place to ask and find answers for questions. Together let's make this long awaited vision a reality. -V Vikram Dendi Program Manager for Helix Player https://player.helixcommunity.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
