You should try building:

BIF:     hxclient_1_5_0_cayenne
target:  splay
profile: helix-client-all-defines

instead of with the helix-client-local-mp3 profile.

Are you using VC6 or VC7? Which platform SDK do you have installed?

Not sure what you mean here. splay.exe is a command-line
player so it only has a command-line GUI.
